Water damage and insurance
What you should do yourself and what we take off your hands.

What you should do straight away
- Shut off the water: turn off the main water valve or the valve on the affected pipe.
- Switch off the power in the affected area if water gets near sockets or cables.
- Take photos: of the damage, of wet areas and of the water meter.
- Report the damage to your insurer and note down the claim number. Tenants should also inform their landlord.
- Do not break anything open yourself. For the insurer, the cause must remain traceable.
Which insurance is responsible?
For damage to the building – pipes, walls, screed and fitted floors – the owner’s buildings insurance is usually responsible. For your furniture and household goods, it is your contents insurance. Exactly what is covered is set out in your policy. If in doubt, ask your insurer.
What we prepare for your insurer
- Leak detection report with cause, measuring methods and photos
- Moisture readings at the start, during and at the end of drying
- Drying report with equipment, running times and meter readings for the electricity
- A clear invoice listing all work
Billing directly with your insurer
If you wish, you assign your claim to us. We then send the invoice directly to your insurer and you do not have to pay up front. Anything the insurer does not cover, such as an excess, we discuss with you beforehand.
